house   |    moya   |   la isla

This part of the island is known for its unique microclimate known as the Laurisilva, which is a subtropical cloud forest that exists only in islands of this latitude. The house sits near its upper bound and with an elevated vantage point, which means you can watch the mist rise up the valley from the ocean and dissipate as it climbs past the house – often there will be soft clouds towards the sea and clear skies towards the peak, the house in between.

Naturally, this area is beloved for its spectacular hiking. There are spectacular trails directly accessible from the house, and others a short drive away. There are also two beautiful towns nearby – Moya and Fontanales. Moya is a larger town with an impressive cathedral on a plaza overlooking the ocean across a deep valley. Fontanales is a small mountain town with an old church and a lovely plaza. Just beyond these towns in either direction, there are dramatically different landscapes.  Up the mountain you quickly rise above the Laurisilva and approach the open skies of the cumbre, and down the mountain you approach the ocean and and its natural pools.
